A Great Haircut Goes a Long Way

So apparently this is what my hair decided to do the other day. Well, that's not exactly accurate.
I actually did an experiment (or hair-xperiment, harf harf!), just to see what would happen if I DON'T blow dry my hair. I usually straighten it in the front and blow dry everything else regularly.

I already got compliments from 3 different people at work on my hair. What you see in the pictures is after a good few hours of fussing around with my bangs whenever they got in my face (which always tends to ruin the shape, even when I straighten my bangs), so you can sort of get an idea of how it looked when it first dried.

But I digress! (always wanted to say that)

It all started one fine evening, when I opened my trusted YouTube page and saw a video by my FAVORITE vintage guru, LisaFreemontStreet, in which she was sporting her new haircut, The Middy. She showed the diagram, and explained how to instruct your stylist to get the same cut.

At the time, I was just starting out with vintage styling and I was repeatedly disappointed with my hair. It was too long, thick, curly, fried, dyed, and generally pretty icky. I tried trimming the ends, but my hair just laughed at that attempt as if to say "Ha! You'll need to do better than trimming a few split ends to get me to do anything!".

So I decided to throw caution to the wind and get that haircut, and proceeded to ask everyone and their mothers/sisters/neighbors if they can recommend a good stylist that can follow directions (apparently, the two CAN sometimes be mutually exclusive!). Oh, and they had to be affordable. I wasn't going to pay 500NIS for someone to cut my hair according to a diagram that's basically Beauty School 101 just in a certain length.

Anyway, after futile attempts and no luck, I decided (once again!!!) to throw caution to the wind, and just went into my local Yellow Pages and looked for the closest hair stylist to my work. As luck would have it, I found one RIGHT around the corner, and not only that, but when I asked her how much she charges, she said the magic word: 100 shekels. Yes, dearies, you heard right. 100 SHEKELS!!!!!!!! I decided that even if she wasn't that great, at least all it costs me is 100 shekels, and my hair grows at a rate of 2-3cm per month, so I can live with a bad haircut for a bit if I had to. G-d knows I've ruined haircuts myself so many times as a teenager, I'm not scared anymore...

So I went there with my diagram, and she took one look at it and said "oh, it's one of the oldest haircuts I remember seeing women my mother's age wear!" and I know that I found my soulmate. Needless to say, she did a fantastic job, and I go to her promptly every 60 days to trim (have I mentioned that my hair grows insanely quickly???), and I never looked back!

(my first experiment with the cut)

(look, it rock n' rolls, too!)

So if you're thinking that vintage/retro styling is difficult, it's really just a diagram and a hair stylist away! And it's also one of the most versatile and timeless styles I've seen, so don't be scared to try it out!
I'd love to hear your responses, or if you DO decide to get it done, post pictures!!!!!!

Adios amigos! :-)

P.S. I'll be happy to provide my stylist's contact info by email, by request.
